Catheter Ablation

Catheter ablation is a procedure that destroys a few cells in your heart in order to eliminate an abnormal heart rhythm. During catheter ablation an electrode catheter is threaded into the heart to the exact location where the abnormal electrical pathway exists. Radio frequency waves are then sent through the catheter to destroy the cells in this area of the heart and therefore prevent further heart rhythm disturbances.
